Biography

The Quatuor Ardeo was founded in 2001 during their studies at the Paris Conservatoire. The quartet received further tuition with Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartett) in Madrid and took part in masterclasses with the Hagen Quartett, Fine Arts Quartet, Günter Pichler, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Eberhard Feltz, Walter Levin and András Keller.

Between 2004 and 2009 the quartet were prizewinners at important string quartet competitions such as Moscow, Bordeaux and Melbourne as well as the Premio Paolo Borciani in Italy. The quartet has enjoyed the support of the Singer-Polignac Foundation since 2008 and ProQuartet since 2010.

The quartet has played at the Cité de la Musique, the Musée d´Orsay, and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and has played at the most important festivals and halls in France and abroad: the Radio France Festival (Montpellier), the “Folles Journées”, Les Jacobins (Toulouse), the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Beethovenfestspiele in Bonn, the festivals in Kuhmo (Finland), Davos (Switzerland), Lockenhaus (Austria), and Schleswig-Holstein (Germany).

Quatuor Ardeo collaborates regularly with Bertrand Chamayou, Renaud Capuçon, Henri Demarquette, Alain Meunier, Andrei Korobeinikov and in particular with the pianist David Kadouch and the clarinettist Reto Bieri. The quartet´s first CD was the world premiere of the string quartets of Charles Koechlin.
