Mike Fletcher is a saxophonist and composer from Birmingham, England who works primarily in the genres of jazz and improvised music. Since graduating from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2005 he has performed widely as both a leader of his own ensembles and as a sideman.

His own groups include a trio with bassist Olie Brice and drummer Jeff Williams, the nonet, Different Trane, which is dedicated to combining the contrasting styles of Steve Reich and John Coltrane, and a 12 piece jazz orchestra. He is also a member of the collaborative group Fletcher/Brice/Jozwiak, releasing their first album “Nick of Time” on Slam Productions in spring 2014.

As a sideman and collaborator he has worked with many of the leading names in contemporary jazz, including: Andrew D’Angelo, Dan Weiss, Sir John Dankworth and Bobby Previte. He is a member of Paul Dunmall’s Sextet, Tony Bianco’s Utoma Quartet and a current member of the European Jazz Orchestra, touring to numerous countries in 2013/2014.

For his participation in the 2014/15 ECHO Rising Stars programme he presents his new project, the Mike Fletcher Trio, with Olie Brice and Jeff Williams. This tour coincides with the release of the groups debut CD on Stoney Lane Music.
