Biography

By receiving the 2nd Grand Prix at the 2009 Rostropovich Competition in Paris, the young Swedish cellist Jakob Koranyi firmly established himself on the classical music scene as one of Europe’s most interesting young soloists.

Recent career highlights include concerts with the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Orchèstre de Paris, Orchestra FilharmoniaVeneta, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra working with conductors such as OkkuKamu, EijiOue, Krzysztof Urbański, Lionel Bringuier, Andrew Manze, Stefan Solyom, Thomas Söndergaard, Susanna Mälkki and Christian Lindberg. A committed chamber musician, Jakob Koranyi collaborates with distinguished musicians such pianist Denis Kozukhin, winner of the 2010 Queen Elizabeth Competition and has appeared in chamber music concerts alongside international stars Yuri Bashmet, Kirill Troussov, Kim Kashkashian and Leonidas Kavakos.

Jakob Koranyi received his Soloist Diploma from the Edsberg Institute of Music with Professor ThorleifThedén, after which he continued his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Ralph Kirshbaum.

On the strength of his critically acclaimed debut recital CD “Jakob Koranyi, cello”, Jakob was labelled “a force to be reconned with” by The Strad Magazine.
