The Javus Quartet, based in Salzburg, is comprised of violinists Marie-Therese Schwöllinger and Alexandra Moser, violist Marvin Stark, and cellist Oscar
Hagen. Having performed together in various formations for many years, the four young musicians officially founded the Javus Quartet in 2016.
Their artistic development has been profoundly shaped by Lukas Hagen, first violinist of the Hagen Quartet. The ensemble is currently studying with Johannes Meissl (Artis Quartet) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and with Gregor Sigl (Artemis Quartet) at the Berlin University of the Arts. In addition, they draw artistic inspiration from leading figures in the international chamber music scene including Eberhard Feltz, Hatto Beyerle, Gerhard Schulz, Valentin Erben, Veronika Hagen, Rainer Schmidt, and Thomas Adès.
The quartet has established a regular presence on renowned international stages including the Musikverein Wien, Wiener Konzerthaus, Konzerthaus Blaibach, Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg, and Wigmore Hall in London. They arealso regularly featured at prestigious international festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and Mozartwoche in Salzburg.
Their chamber music partners include Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartet), Jean and Agnès Sulem, Matthias Schorn, and Pauline Sachse. The Javus Quartet has received numerous awards, including the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Music Prize (2024), the Hans Gál Prize, the Musica Juventutis Prize, the Zukunftsklang Award Stuttgart (2022), and the Audience Award at the Irene Steels-Wilsing Competition as part of the Heidelberger Frühling (2020).
